If They Stopped Shunning Tomorrow?

imagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).

how would you respond to your family?.

personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

If they lifted or softened their rules on shunning, I don't think it will have the impact some here think it will. Do you think that your children, parents, and former friends that have shunned you for many years will all of a sudden reach out to you? They will still view you as unrepentant, mentally diseased, worldly, and bad association. I don't see a daughter or son that has shunned their parents for a decade and withhold their children from meeting their grandparents all of a sudden have a change of heart.

The Watchtower Inc. would have to give not only permission but also encourage those to reach out, and that won't happen. Every year the WT publishes the same narratives several times a year. First narrative is the example of Korah being "swallowed up" for not following Moses and that not following the Governing Body is a death sentence. Second is Jesus stating he came not for Peace but with a Sword pitching daughter against father ect.... These two are repeated over and over again every single year I was a witness, and I still see it in their literature to this day.

now, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!

perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.

now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

If you watch an interview with Chaney back in the mid 90's or maybe early 90's he talks about how it would be a mistake to invade Iraq. It is an amazing interview. Chaney predicted all the stuff that would happen if we invaded and gave that as a reason why Bush Sr. didn't invade.

Both wars have had a major impact on US debt and destabilizing the region IMO.

What Do Creationists do in their Laboratories?

well they actually do cutting-edge research and publish peer-reviewed papers (well, reviewed by other creationists actually).

here is a recent example by "dr" danny faulkner on whether the flood lasted for 371 or 365 days..... you will always remember where you were when you first heard of this leap in human knowledge.. spoiler alert - he concludes it doesn't matter either way.

So few creationist do a good job of providing intellectual thought to their arguments. I can understand that believing in intelligent design is a difficult position to hold, but they should make an attempt of postulating logical points for discussion.

I think the best they can do is ask questions, which in itself doesn't prove creationist viewpoints but it does spur reasonable conversation.

The complexity argument is one they use. Richard Dawkins addresses that one, though I don't think his argument is that strong.

The two questions I would ask if I was a creationist, is why doesn't abiogenesis and endosymbiosis happen today?

Again, a lack of information doesn't prove God, but it is much better discussion than their pseudoscience approach.

Biology Blog site if anyone is interested

i'm required to take an additional seven science courses.

this summer i'm taking a biology course/lab.

I'm attending two schools. I do my nursing clinical at a community college and my bachelor courses at University of South Florida. They have an agreement for a concurrent program.

'Anointeds' Do you know any and if so what are they like ?

The anointed one I knew was in field service one day, and the person at the door ask why God would allow Aids. The JW responded if you follow the bible you won't get Aids. Apparently this anointed JW heard something similar at a convention and couldn't wait to use his one line zinger. Well apparently this person he was witnessing to had a relative that was a child with Aids. It wasn't a pretty scene to say the least. This was back in the late 80s when Aids was being blamed on homosexuals.

all that i can say is....what a shame!

I became inactive around 17 and completely out by age 21. I've been able to pursue higher education and a comfortable lifestyle. My time as a JW was not too bad. My father was not a witness but enforced their rules. My mother wasn't "strong" in the faith. She was viewed and our family as spiritually weak. The congregation condescending attitude help make the exit much easier.

The only "regrets" I have is the loss friendships I've could of had, and some childhood activities. However overall it wasn't that bad. Some good times while a witness youth, and best of all no "brother" every tried to touch my peeter.

The congregation I was in kept them in a lock room behind the service counter. That was in the 90's. We had some dopey Elders, that same room was where the cleaning supplies were held. Even knew of an Elder that kept notes on peeps on his personal computer. He was eventually removed, but kinda of creepy.

In the 80's we had one in our congregation. He was in his early 40's, and there were many in the congregation that doubted him. He is still claiming to be part of the anointed and is in his mid 70's.

I was good friends with his son, and with his family. He never held a job, but was a "pioneer". His wife worked full-time as an RN on third shift. She also did all the cleaning and cooking. He would sit in "his" chair most of the day either watching TV or on the computer. He eventually got a job in his late 50's for a few years. He also was an Elder for about two years or so, before being removed. He would blabber confidential information to his wife and family.
